The Civil Corps are a large organized group of people working throughout the Alliance of Free Cities, as well as other cities outside the alliance. While there is a branch of the Civil Corps in each of the five Free Cities, they all operate under a common goal: to support and defend the people.

Operations[]

The Civil Corps operate a number of missions regularly. These may include, but are likely not limited to:

  • Heading into abandoned ruins and mines in search of power stones, which help power the energy and technological needs of the world.
  • Exploring out into The Peripheries, either to slay monsters that get too close to protected territory or to hunt for important, useful artifacts.
  • Protect the people from monsters that roam the lands, especially ones that occasionally wander too close to a protected civilized establishment.

Branches[]

The Civil Corps operate a branch out of each of the five Free Cities: Portia, Vega 5, Barnarock, Logos, and Seesai. verify ]

Portia branch[]

The Portia branch of the Civil Corps is led by Arlo. The only other members are Remington and Sam.

The Civil Corps building is located at the top of the inner city next to Dr. Xu's Clinic and Abandoned Ruins #2, up the hill from the gate to the Collapsed Wasteland. An attached Stable is to the right of the entrance, where the members' horses rest when not in use. Arlo has a white horse named Spacer, Remington has a light brown horse with spots named Arrow, and Sam has a dark brown horse named Teddy. The Corps often ride their horses while on patrol, though they sometimes experience a bug and end up running after their horses.

The Civil Corps can take on commissions from residents on their commission board in their headquarters. They can help in finding useful materials from the ruins around Portia.

Commission Board and front desk

The player can commission the Civil Corps to gather materials for them. Commissions can be posted on the Commission Board inside the Civil Corps building, near the entrance. There are two types of commissions: field commissions and ruin diving commissions.

To post a commission, the player needs to choose the quantity of materials desired and name the maximum deadline for the commission, measured in days (which determines the duration, or number of days that the commission can take). The more materials needed and/or the more urgent the commission is, the more it costs. The player has to pay for the commission immediately and in full when the commission is posted. A commission can be cancelled at any time for an 80% refund. Up to three commissions can be posted at the same time. If searching for the optimal levels to find specific items, see the table in the Ruin diving commissions by item section.

Once a commission is complete, the requested materials will be delivered to the player's mailbox.

Relationship perks[]

Marrying one of the Civil Corps members will award a perk that will affect the Civil Corps' commissions. The player is only allowed to marry one person at a time, without the use of mods.

Character Perk
Brings back more loot when commissioned at the Civil Corps. The perk grants 50% bonus on all materials commissioned by the player regardless of the character who accepted the commission.
It costs less to post a commission at the Civil Corps. The perk reduces the cost of posting a commission at the Civil Corps by 50%.
Commissions at the Civil Corps take less time to complete. The perk reduces the time Civil Corps take to complete commissions by 50% and is active regardless of the character who accepted the commission.

Field commissions[]

A number of materials for field commissions are available at the Civil Corps at the start of the game. More materials become available as the player progresses through the main story. The story missions that need to be completed in order to unlock new commissions are listed in the table below; a new commission will be available the next day after completing the required mission.

The cost listed per item is the price when giving the Civil Corps the longest commission duration possible (as many as eight days, though the Civil Corps may sometimes deliver the items as soon as the next day or two).

Ruin diving commissions[]

The player can commission the Civil Corps to dive into certain Hazardous Ruins and bring relics and materials. Though more Hazardous Ruins exist in Portia, the Civil Corps will only ruin dive in the Sewage Plant and Ingall's Mine. These ruin diving commissions can be posted only for the floors the player has previously cleared; completing a new level in the Sewage Plant or Ingall's Mine will unlock that level in the Civil Corps' offerings.

Every completed commission delivers a number of fixed items in fixed quantities as well as a small number of bonus random items. Fixed items are delivered every time, even if they are not listed on the commission board when the player posts the commission. The quantities of the items shown in the table below are the amounts given if the quantity of the commission is set to 1. Setting the quantity to 2 will double the amount of materials received, while setting it to 3 will triple the amount received. Even if the quantity is set to 2 or 3, that commission is counted as a single commission (out of the three commission slots the player is allowed).

Jail[]

Civil Corps Jail

Jail cell

The Portian branch of the Civil Corps has a jail cell in its main room. It is rarely used and receives use only a few times over the course of My Time at Portia, namely after the following missions: The Crashed Station, The Burnt Warehouse, The Theft, and The Final Battle.

Jailed persons stay incarcerated for varying amounts of time. Most are left in the jail only until certain missions are completed, though others, such as the culprit of The Burnt Warehouse (imprisoned after the following fireside meeting), are left in the jail for approximately one season. There is no announcement upon that culprit's release; it simply happens without alerting the player. After release, the arsonist returns to their daily schedule without further repercussions or acknowledgement of the incident.

Jailed persons can freely be spoken to while in jail. It is possible for the culprit of The Burnt Warehouse to post commissions on the Commerce Guild Commission Board while in jail; these commissions can still be completed successfully, despite the incarceration.

Trivia[]

  • The "Corps" in the name of the Civil Corps is occasionally mispronounced as "corpse" by its own members during voice acted lines.[1] "Corps" is pronounced the same as the English word "core," rhyming with "more" or "door."
  • In his casual chat dialogue, Remington says "I used to travel a lot until I took an arrow to the knee. I still would like to take a peek at the Peripheries before my time's up." In addition to it being ironic that his horse is named Arrow, his dialogue may be a reference to a memetic dialogue from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.[2] It is not a reference to being married.[3]

"In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the town guard non-player characters (NPCs) have several stock lines they will repeat when the player walks near them, including a bewildered statement about 'curved swords', a patronizing statement about 'sweetroll' theft, and the melancholy reminiscing of the past 'I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.' The repetition of this stock line throughout the game led the players to reference it in gaming forums and imageboards."
