My Time at Portia Wiki

The Factory is a late game building used for crafting that unlocks after completing Portia Harbor. The player will be notified of its availability via mail.

Cost[]

The Factory can be built and upgraded at A&G Construction.

Level 1 Factory occupies an area of 12 x 21 and can house 20 crafting stations. The Factory can be upgraded to Level 2 to hold 30 stations. Level 2 Factory occupies a larger space of approximately 14 x 25.

The player must provide the materials required to upgrade the Factory and pay a flat rate for the construction. The material cost of upgrading will be reduced by 10% if the player is buddy with Albert. The Gols cost will be reduced by 3% if the player is buddy with Gust and by 6% if the player is his lover.

Usage[]

The Factory can be used to greatly increase the output from machines and queue up items for automatic construction. It has a Central Power Supply that supplies all machines with energy without the need to manually refill each machine every couple of days.

Central Power Supply[]

The Central Power Supply is used to power all machines in the Factory. Depending on the fuel, the Supply will run continuously until no more fuel is available. It cannot be switched off manually, and once fuel is put in, it cannot be taken out again.

The Power Supply has no upper limit in regards to fuel.

  • Wood is the cheapest fuel and one of the easiest materials to obtain: the player can trade up to 999 Wood for Stone per day at A&G Construction Store, which is enough to power the Factory for approximately 104 days.
    • The player can also get wood with the Tree Farm delivery service.
    • Additionally, one Hardwood can be turned into five Wood on the player's Worktable, effectively increasing its runtime as fuel 2.5 times. The 5 Wood will fuel the factory for 12h 30m, with a Gols/h of 0.16.
      • Manually crafting 5 sets of Wood on a Worktable with a maxed out Artisan skill allows the player to turn 4 Hardwood into 25 Wood. This further improves the efficiency of each piece of hardwood to 15h 37m 30s and reduces the total Gols/h to 0.128.
  • Power Stones are also a common fuel and can be found while mining in the Abandoned Ruins.
    • Condensed Power Stones are not the most effective high-tech fuel, since the player needs 4 Power Stones to purchase 1 Condensed, but the Condensed ones will last only 2.666 times longer than a regular Power Stone will.

Stations[]

The base Factory has space for 20 crafting stations, a level 2 Factory has space for 30 stations. Almost every crafting station that produces items can be placed on any of the spaces, including furnaces, cutters, skivers, grinders, and blenders. Each machine grants a different number of slots available at the Auto Workstation. These slots can then be used to queue up items for automatic construction.

Crafting stations that offer dual slots have varying efficiency compared to their components:

  • If you use two slots for two Comprehensive Cutters, you'll have Cutting x8 and Smelting x12 (20 total slots)
  • If you use one slot for an Industrial Cutter and one for an Industrial Furnace, you'll have Cutting x10 and Smelting x10 (20 total slots)
  • If you use two slots for two Comprehensive Grinders, you'll have Polishing x8 and Smelting x12 (20 total slots)
  • If you use one slot for a Grinder and one for an Industrial Furnace, you'll have Polishing x6 and Smelting x10 (16 total slots)

Auto workstation[]

20180730095706 1

At the Auto workstation, items can be queued up for construction. The number of slots available corresponds to the machines that are placed in the Factory. An easy example is that the player will have ten smelting slots available if he has placed a single Industrial Furnace in the Factory. These slots can now be filled with different orders.

By having ten smelting slots available in the above example, the output of the Industrial Furnace is potentially increased up to ten-fold, since ten queues producing Iron Bars could be initiated. If you lack ingredients that can themselves be produced in the Factory, but have the prerequisite items in the Material Warehouse, those items will also be queued.

  • Example: you have Iron Ore and Charcoal in the Material Warehouse and you go to craft 1 Carbon Steel Bar, the Factory will use the existing Charcoal, and take one Furnace slot to craft the Carbon Steel Bar. However, if you have no Charcoal, but do have Wood in the Material Warehouse, the Factory will take two furnace slots, one to smelt the Charcoal and one to smelt the Carbon Steel Bar.
  • Keep in mind that if something takes multiple smelted components (EG., Paddle), it will take one crafting slot for EACH component that requires processing.
    • Crafting a Paddle out of raw materials (Ores and Wood) requires 18 Furnace slots (5 for the Charcoal, 5 for the Carbon Steel Bars, and 8 for the Tin Alloys), 15 Electrolysis slots (For the Stainless Aluminum), 5 Cutting slots (To turn the Stainless Aluminum into Aluminum Plates), and 2 Grinder slots (To turn the Tin Alloys into Bearings). Because the Paddle itself is a Worktable recipe, it requires no slots of its own.

Items can be added to the queue with the Add to the list button. Note that items can be queued even if not enough materials are available. Production will only be initiated once enough material has been placed in the Material Warehouse (the box to the left of the Auto workstation). The Factory will not use any resources that are located in other boxes.

When clicking on the View crafting button, all steps needed for the construction of an item can be seen. From this screen, the player can also directly replenish necessary material. It will be taken from storage boxes and placed into the Material Warehouse. In this way the player can choose whether to construct an item from the ground up or to use intermediate resources they already have available.

Warehouse for finished goods[]

Finished items will be placed on the left-most platform (instead of being sent to the resource box outside the player's yard). They can be collected here periodically until the Factory runs out of fuel or material to produce the queued up items.

Remote Control Device[]

This machine requires a Level 3 Assembler and serves the same function as the automatic assembler. Unlike the regular crafting, the Factory will not automatically produce the required goods to make the item, so they must be on hand to start the process.

Factory-exclusive recipes[]

Most of the items that can be crafted on different stations can be automated using the Factory, but there are a number of items that cannot be crafted anywhere else besides the Factory.

Upgrades[]

The speed at which the Factory produces items can be upgraded at the Automation Controls, a console to the right of the Auto workstation. Research Notes, which can be obtained from the Research Center Exchange in exchange for Data Discs, are necessary for the upgrades.

Level Research NotesResearch Notes Research Notes Speed increase

1 1 1 1%
2 1 1 2%
3 1 1 3%
4 5 1 4%
5 n/a 5 10%

12 n/a 3 22%
13 n/a 3 23%
14 n/a 3 24%
15 n/a 10 30%

So for all upgrades to be done, the player needs to purchase at least 53 Research Notes (530 data discs).

Trivia[]

  • Even though the Factory can produce Worktable items, it does not take the Artisan Skill into consideration.
    • However, the option to "craft" wood from hardwood is missing.
    • If all the processed goods are available, Worktable items will be produced "instantly", though one at a time, meaning it will take a few seconds for a bulk craft to appear in the product warehouse.
