The Day of the Bright Sun is a festival to celebrate the event of Peach ending the 330-year-long Age of Darkness by clearing the clouds and letting the sun rays shine over the land once again, which occurred around 100 years prior to the events of My Time at Portia. It occurs on the 19th day of Month 1 every year.

When chaos and darkness befell the world, a man named Peach created a machine that ended the 330-year darkness. The common folk honored Peach for his heroic act, thus creating and dedicating a holiday known as the Day of the Bright Sun to him.
Festivities[]
During the first year, at the fireside meeting on Day 14, Mayor Gale requests that all citizens of Portia participate in the gift-giving event by donating an item. The player can donate a gift of their own through the Present for the Celebration mission. Although the festival will occur every year, there will not be a fireside about it after year 1. The mission, however, is repeatable each year.
Before the festivities start Gale delivers a short speech:

At the start of the day of the festival, an airship will fly from the north of the Workshop towards town. Once the event begins at 10:00, a few gift boxes will be seen falling from it one at a time, tumbling to the ground. Townsfolk will follow its path and run in a mad scramble for each box. If the player is able to reach a box before someone else claims it, they can press the interact button ("E" on keyboard, "A" on controller) to pick it up. The airship travels from Peach Plaza towards Central Plaza, following the road. After the event, it stops dropping presents and flies off again.
The player needs to be hasty and retrieve as many gifts before the event ends. Most townsfolk will participate in the event (making the festival a good time and place to give everyone gifts to improve their Relationship) and are able to claim the gifts. After claiming a gift, the player receives a letter of gratitude from the benefactor.

Special Group Photos[]
When the Day of the Bright Sun, present drop finishes, special group photo opportunities will become available. They are marked on the map with 
icon. Activate the glittering camera sign (right) and you'll take a group photo with the people standing next to the sign. The pose is unique to this festival and group of people. Try and get them all before the day ends!

Trivia[]
- Managing to pick up 7 or more gifts during the festival will trigger the Quick Hands achievement.
- Not obtaining any gifts during the festival will cause Gale to send the player a letter with several items attached the following day out of pity.
- Four of the human Portians who live in or near town do not gather in front of the Commerce Guild at the beginning of the event or participate in the present-grabbing: Gust and Ginger who stand nearby under a tree, until the start of the festival (with QQ who then goes to sleep in A&G Construction); Isaac who sits with his Cross Five board in the park; and Liuwa, who is guarding the Amber Island Cave entrance. Additionally, Abu can be seen just outside of one of the city entrances, looking wistfully at the event.
- Gale doesn't participate in collecting presents, either, and can be found waiting with his children near the end of the event.
- Even though Liuwa doesn't participate in the event, gifts can be received from him.
- The city gets decorated with balloons the day before the event, and on the day of the event, there are two hot air balloons that circle the city all day, while the present-dropping airship flies slowly overhead across the city.
- The speed of the airship is directly affected by the speed the game is set to in Options.
- At 100% game speed, the airship will fly from Peach Plaza to Central Plaza before dropping gifts. Once it arrives, gifts will be dropped rapidly and in groups, so that the player can pick up many in a row before the townspeople can run to the location of the dropped gifts. Like the townspeople, the player should sprint for Peach Plaza as soon as the event starts to await the first drops, and getting there on time will give the player an advantage. The high speed at which presents drop will allow the player to collect them very quickly, before they can be swarmed by the other Portians.
- At 50% game speed, the airship will start dropping presents early, near Peach Plaza, as it travels to Central Plaza. The presents are dropped at a much slower rate, meaning that everyone will be fighting over one or two presents, and the other townspeople will swarm each drop. This makes it far more difficult for the player to grab an entire group of newly-dropped presents before townspeople arrive to compete.
- Because the player has an advantage at 100% game speed, those who normally play at less than 100% may wish to change the game speed to 100% during the event.
