Upon entering the Barber Shop and talking to Sanwa:

(Something smells absolutely terrible.)
Welcome, Player! Take a little off the top for ya?
Maybe not right now. Does something in here smell funny to you?
Oh, uh, yeah. That. I got some new shampoo from Atara, and, well. It smells absolutely terrible. I think I'm actually losing a lot of business over it.
  • Why not just use your old stuff?
  • Why not try some other kind?
→  Why not just use your old stuff?
Eh, well, I bought this stuff. May as well use it.
→  Why not try some other kind?
For the price, it's great stuff! I guess… maybe it's cheap because it smells bad.

  • Do you think you could add something to neutralize the smell?
  • Well, maybe someday people will get used to it…

Hey! That's the ticket! Look at the big brain on you! But uh… something you might not know about me: I've got no sense of smell. A firework flew up my nose as a kid. One in a million shot… erm, anyway, why don't you go ask people what they'd want shampoo to smell like? Like a survey type thing. We can go from there.
(mission needs cleanup, start)

Hey! Here's hopin'!
Hey! I came up with a solution to the whole "smelly shampoo" thing; I can just add some fragrant-type stuff to it... problem is, I don't really know what people like their hair to smell like! Can you go around town and ask a few people for me? Call it, uh... "market research".
Hey! Remember that whole "smelly shampoo" thing? Instead of waiting for people to get used to the smell, I decided to get proactive and find a way to change the way the shampoo smells.
Took me sometime out of the shop to make it all happen. Sure wish someone could've helped out… oh well! Smell ya later, haha!
Alright! I knew I could count on you!

The player must conduct a survey among the town's fashion enthusiasts:

Hm, a lot of people in town are going to be using this shampoo, right? Why not play it safe and make it smell like flowers? Everyone likes flowers.
A new shampoo, huh? That's, like, totally a great idea! Could you make it smell like… like… peppermint tea? That'd be totes posh!
Ah, I can't think of any fragrance more elegant than the Aroma Apple; all-natural and surprisingly enticing. Last thing I need is people coming into the clinic with some artificial stench on them…

Upon returning to Sanwa:

Excellent marketing research! And now to create the product! Er, modify the product. Player, can you find me some raw materials to make the fragrance?
Sure.
Well, uh, based on the market research, I guess we need Tea, fresh flowers and an Aroma Apple. That way everybody gets what they want… right?
Okay! That's everything! I just have to remember what I learned back at beauty school in Atara… I'll test out the shampoo on my brothers, then let you know how it all turns out. Thanks a bunch!
(Mission needs cleanup, start)
Uh, yeah, sorry about that. I'll handle it. Thanks all the same.
Hey! Remember that whole "smelly shampoo" thing? With your market research, I was able to throw something together that actually smells great! Took me sometime out of the shop to make it all happen. Sure wish someone could've helped out… oh well! Smell ya later, haha!

Upon meeting townspeople:

I love Sanwa's new shampoo so much! I just went to get my roots done, and now I feel like I'm swimming in a sea of flowers!
Okay, yeah, so whatever, I, like, get my hair professionally shampooed. Big deal. I do whatever it takes to maintain fabulousness. What!? You don't see any difference? Can't you at least, like… smell the difference?
Just between you and me, I do use a bit of Sanwa's shampoo to keep my blonde hair extra shiny. I'm so glad Sanwa asked for my opinion on the fragrance! Now I can smell Aroma Apple every-where I go!
