Universal gifts are gifts that are reacted to by all (or most) characters in similar ways, unlike unique gift preferences. Most gifts are universal neutrals, only giving +1 relationship point by default. Certain gifts to certain characters are exempt from universal gifts. For example, most characters react neutrally to receiving Meat as a gift, but Presley dislikes Meat and will react negatively.

Universal neutrals[]
Most giftable items are neutral unless stated otherwise; these neutral gifts are never included in gifting tables because the vast number of items in My Time at Portia would unnecessarily bulk out gifting tables. Generally, the player will gain +1 RP for giving neutral gifts.
Exceptions:
- Ginger: She doesn't care as much about material items as most NPCs, so it while it doesn't hurt to give her a neutral gift, it doesn't help, either (+0 RP).
- Pinky: She is very picky about gifts, so unlike most NPCs, the player will lose -2 RP for giving her neutral gifts.
